Do you have a TV?

At Glenella we do not have televisions in the rooms. We supply one large Smart TV in the sitting room which receives all the Smart TV channels free to air (ABC, SBS, Seven, Nine, Ten) plus others such as Youtube, Netflix. If you use a subscription service you will need to use your own account.

We do however have good WiFi and you can use a laptop or tablet to stream from online services should you wish to view any content.

Is smoking permitted?

Smoking is not permitted in the rooms or any part of the building.  There is a designated smoking area in the garden.

In addition NSW law (Smoke-free Environment Act 2000) is clear in that smoking is not permitted within 4 metres of an entrance or exit door.

How can I get from Sydney International Airport to Blackheath?

There is a train service directly from the airport to Sydney Central Station.

From Sydney Central station, transfer to a train on the BLUE MOUNTAINS line which will take you to Blackheath in approximately 2 hours 15min. Trains generally depart every hour from Sydney.

From Blackheath station it is about 400m to the Glenella front door.

Note – you will need an OPAL card to use the train, which you can obtain at the airport.

Are there laundry facilities available?

Glenella has a domestic sized washing machine and a commercial size dryer available.

Laundry powder is included, and the washing machine may be used for $4 per load.

For drying there is an outside washing line, or the dryer may be used for $4.

Do we need a car in Blackheath?

Many of the attractions are within walking distance, so for a short visit – no car is needed.

There are other transport options available including the train to nearby villages, and Sydney, plus buses, taxis and tour/shuttle companies.

Can I rent a bike or a car in Blackheath?

There are options for hiring taxis, shuttles and tours available nearby.

We partner with a local bike tour operator for bike rentals. The most popular and most recommended ride is to Hanging Rock, which is not accessible by car and best reached by bike. You can start from right here at Glenella.

What to do when in Blackheath

Explore the National Parks? Without a car.

These are the popular options many of our guests enjoy:

WALK.

Through the park to Govetts Leap lookout via Popes Glen Creek trail, and return via the road.

Across the village to Fort Rock and/or Centennial Glen. Great for sunsets and often Rock Climbers to watch.

Big walk to Govetts Leap lookout, along Clifftop to Evans Lookout, through Grand Canyon and return via Braeside fire road.

Deep into the valley down Rodrigues Pass, below the Govetts Waterfall, then return via Evans Lookout.

Walk to Hanging Rock and return. A real favourite destination for walkers, trail runners and mountain bikers. Vehicle access is not possible.

BUS/TRAIN.

Using the Bus or Train guests can travel further afield to access other parts of the National Parks. Wentworth Falls via Charles Darwin walk is recommended.

Note: The jewel of the area is the Grand Canyon Track, which is a good day walk from Glenella and incorporates a large variety of terrain and is an opportunity to see some unique wildlife.

What kind of activities are there around Blackheath?

Blackheath is the favourite place for nature lovers in the Blue Mountains. From Glenella Guesthouse, you can enjoy the Govetts Leap Lookout, with a view over the Grose Valley – just down the road. Minutes by car, or a short 2.5km walk.

There are paragliding and climbing spots.

Don’t miss the Three Sisters on the Blue Mountains National Park, at Katoomba (12km from Blackheath – 2 stops by train).

There are many beautiful walking trails in this area which are easily reached. Even if you don’t have your own transport.

Glenella is ideally located within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants and only few minutes from the train station and the Blue Mountains National Park. Discover more information about the attractions.

What activities are available at Glenella?

In our guesthouse, you could enjoy the beautiful garden, relax in the large open lounge area, explore the historic building and our history corner.
